Resize an image for LinkedIn
LinkedIn wants seven different shapes, from a 400-pixel square to a banner nearly six times wider than it is tall. Pick the slot in the size list above and the editor makes your image exactly that size: a frame over the picture shows what a crop will keep and can be dragged where you want it, or the whole image can be fitted inside with a plain border.
LinkedIn image sizes, checked October 2026
Every figure here is from LinkedIn’s own help centre: sharing photos, profile photos, background photos, Page images, article covers and link previews. The links open the editor at that size.
| Slot | Pixels | Shape | LinkedIn’s limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Image post, portrait | 1080 × 1350 | 4:5 | At least 552 × 276; 5 MB |
| Image post, square | 1080 × 1080 | 1:1 | At least 552 × 276; 5 MB |
| Link preview, or a wide post | 1200 × 627 | 1.91:1 | Minimum for previews; 5 MB |
| Profile photo, Page logo | 400 × 400 | 1:1 | Profile 8 MB, PNG or JPG; logo 3 MB |
| Profile background | 1584 × 396 | 4:1 | Under 8 MB, JPG or PNG |
| Company Page cover | 1512 × 256 | 5.9:1 | 3 MB, PNG or JPEG |
| Article or newsletter cover | 1920 × 1080 | 16:9 | JPEG, PNG or WebP; no GIF |
Exports here are JPEG at quality 90, accepted in every slot. A 1920 × 1080 photo at that setting measured 527 KB in our tests, so none of the file limits above comes close to binding.
The Company Page cover changed
If you manage a Company Page, the cover is the size most guides get wrong. LinkedIn’s Page image specifications now give 1512 × 256 as both the minimum and the recommended size; older articles quote 1128 × 191, and some even 4200 × 700. An image made at an old size is scaled and cropped to fit the new slot, so text near its edges can be lost. Remake it at 1512 × 256.
Posts: anything from 3:1 to 4:5
An image post may be any shape between 3:1 wide and 4:5 tall. LinkedIn recommends a width of 1080 pixels. Wider than 3:1, and LinkedIn crops the sides off itself, from the centre. Within the range, shape is a choice about space: a 4:5 portrait fills the most of a phone screen as people scroll, a square is the safe middle, and a 1.91:1 landscape matches the link previews around it.
Posts with several photos show each at no more than 4:5, and can hold up to twenty images. As with any set, make them all the same size so the gallery lines up.
Questions about LinkedIn sizes
What is the best image size for a LinkedIn post?
1080 pixels wide, as LinkedIn recommends. 1080 × 1350 (4:5) takes the most room in the feed; 1080 × 1080 is the safe square. The upload limit is 5 MB.
What size is the LinkedIn background photo?
1584 × 396 pixels, a 4:1 strip, under 8 MB as JPG or PNG. Your profile photo covers part of it, so keep text clear of the bottom edge.
What size is a LinkedIn Company Page cover?
1512 × 256 pixels, according to LinkedIn’s current Page image specifications. Older guides quoting 1128 × 191 are out of date.
What size should a LinkedIn profile photo be?
At least 400 × 400 pixels, as PNG or JPG, under 8 MB. It is shown as a circle, so keep your face in the middle of the square.
Is my photo uploaded to resize it?
No. The editor crops, pads and resizes in your browser and saves the file from there; it reaches LinkedIn only when you upload it yourself. The privacy policy shows how to check.
